As England await their crucial Six Nations encounter against Ireland this weekend, fans have the opportunity to see how the team prepares for its biggest matches.
The RFU and Pitch Productions present England Rugby: Rising Sons, a behind the scenes look at England’s emotional journey in the 2019 Rugby World Cup, which shows the long-term planning, pre-match preparations, and team dynamic which got them so close to glory.
“Even for those of us that were there every step of the way along England's journey, this is an interesting insight into their World Cup odyssey with plenty of behind-the-scenes footage showing the squad as people as well as players at an unforgettable Japanese Rugby World Cup. Even if you know there's not going to be a happy ending, it's worth tagging along for the ride.” - Neil Squires, Daily Express Chief Sports Writer
The hour-long documentary, which was filmed by an embedded crew and has supplementary interviews with Coach Eddie Jones and Captain Owen Farrell, will be televised Friday 21st February on ITV. Former England international Ugo Monye narrates the voiceover for the documentary.
Following the players and coaching staff every step of the way with unrestricted access, Rising Sons sheds new light on all the key moments of the tournament, but also connects us with the players and their journey on and off the pitch.
“You’re playing against the best team in the world. The focus is just a little bit tighter, the training is a little bit more intense. Nothing exponentially greater than what you’ve done, but you can just feel it in the air - it’s the best feeling in the world.” – Eddie Jones on the build-up to the All Blacks match
Hear from all of the stars in the England squad, as they share everything from how they prepare for the biggest match of their lives, to which teammates they find most annoying, and what books they read.
Jonathan Rogers, COO at Pitch International, said:
“Viewers will love seeing how England meticulously planned their triumph over the All Blacks and their raw emotions after losing in the final, but the most interesting moments are the examples of leadership, the strong relationships within the squad and seeing the players away from the game.
“The honesty and vulnerability of the players is what makes this documentary special. Having recently produced the Amazon All or Nothing Series on the Brazil National Football team, our expertise in telling the inside story of the best teams in world sport is unrivalled.”
